Joshua Tree: Week One, bleeding FINGERS

(All photos courtesy of Chris Iezzoni)

Soo, comes the close of a full week in Joshua Tree, for all those that have been trying to get ahold of me and found it useless. No phone!! ha ha ha. Take that! Well, it was a nice and toasty 70 out the first day we arrived (the 12th I belive it was) Though the next day was not quite so toasty, a mild 60.....thusrday, SNOW/SLEET...and we still managed to rope up. I couldn't feel my feet or finger dispite the hand warmer in the chalk bag trick. I was trying a climbing much too hard for me (dont worry mom, i was roped up AND close to the ground) but it made my finger bleed.

The rock out here is like sand paper of a nasty gritt. It just ripps you up. But it makes for good foot work. It is warmer the last couple days, infact a nice 70, though windy. Tomorrow should be slightly cooler and I guess that is OK. As long as the wind is down, I'm staying toasty. Taking walks, listening to the desert, enjoying the loudness of the quiet.

So more or less everyday goes like this;
Me: What'cha wanna do today.
Chris: I know, how'bout we go climb something.
Me: Sounds good.

Wake, eat, climb, eat, climb, eat, sleep, repeat.
Not a bad life.

We have been visited by a bundle or a pack of coyotes, and a bobcat made an apperance three times on out first day. Though I haven't seen them since.

...and....I am starting to feel stronger, and well, kinda like a need a shower too. Though I DID have a shower last saturday, I think. I may be running low on socks. infact. I am.

Rarww.......
